About the Author 

W. Clarence Schilt bagged his D.Min. from Fuller Theological Seminary. He spent over two decades in pastoral ministry where his primary focus was in establishing small groups in churches. His teaching career took him to Loma Linda University, California. He trained hundreds of group leaders and spoke regularly at seminars. 

About the Book 

This book is based on the material Schilt used in teaching the skills of small group leadership. Published in 1992 by Review and Heralds Publishing Association, Hagerstown, MD, this 96-page book is a rich resource for starting and running small groups. Schilt uses a strong biblical standpoint to argue that small group ministry is for personal and church growth. 

Dr. Schilt begins by telling his personal story as a way explaining the value of small groups. Then there is an overview of the importance and benefits of small groups, based on the biblical framework and theology of small groups. The rest of the book then offers specific tools and skills for leading small groups. Practical issues like – starting a small group, studying the Bible in groups, praying in small groups, and communication in small groups – are discussed. 

The Appendix of this book is a valuable asset in the hands of the reader. It would be a travesty of knowledge acquisition in small group ministry if this book is not thoroughly read and applied by any church doing small group ministry. The very readable nature of this book would appeal to almost every kind of reader. 

It is recommended that this book be in the library of every pastor who desires growth in his church, as to enable them to train members. This is also a training manual for members who love small group ministry.
