About us

  • The Institute of Mission Studies at Friedensau Adventist University continues a story that began with a “European Institute for Mission” at Newbold College in the 1990s. There are also forerunners in Friedensau and Germany: The "Institute for Community Development and World Mission" in the early 1990s (which later became an "Institute for Integrated Child, Youth and Adult Work") and the "Central Office for Evangelism and Community Development" of the community the STA in Germany.
Named after Arthur Daniells, the tenth President of the General Conference, the Mission Science Institute of the Theological University of Friedensau is committed to Daniells' mission and ideals. Arthut Daniells shaped the mission of the community very strongly at that time. He introduced missionaries to training and preparation for the service and recognized that significantly more missionaries had to be sent out. A year after starting his work, the number of missionaries had increased tenfold. His main concerns were training, preparation, strategic planning, recruitment, and efficiency in missionary service.

The Institute of Mission Studies was founded on August 18, 2009 by Winfried Noack, Laszlo Szabo and Stefan Höschele. The full name is: "Arthur Daniells Institute of Mission Studies- Interdisciplinary Institute for Theological and Social Science Research in Community Development and Mission."
