Leipzig- die Tür (the door)

  • Leipzig- die Tür (the door)

The project “Die Tür” in Leipzig is a good opportunity to see, how the concept of “centers of influence” is carried out in praxis in the German speaking area. "Die Tür" finds great attention and favor in a secular and atheist city in the East of Germany. The project is a place for neighbors to meet and started out with a simple small group. More than ten years ago, three families regularly met for a weekly small group and finally came up with the idea to establish a breakfast meet and greet for their friends and families. The idea was met with open arms, resulting in a small group forming the core team for “Die Tür”. For six years now, the project is found within its own rented premises.

Today, “Die Tür” has its own shop, where handicrafts are sold and second hand clothes can be swapped. About 30 voluntary craftsmen and -women are selling their art for a small amount of money. Next to the two showrooms, there are a big all-purpose room, toilets and a smaller room for storage and one-on-one talks. It can clearly be seen, that the core team has a special love for their neighbors. “We want to bring Jesus to the people”, the leader says. They are reflecting the love for their neighbors and are having a heart for mission. They want to set a positive example and are engaging in the work, wherever possible. They are offering their time and are also financially contributing to the project. A friend’s association offers financial support as well, but most of the time, the project pays for itself.
